Stupid is as Stupid does...
The Book of Proverbs
Proverbs 19
Scripture-Proverbs chapter 19:3 (The Message)
People ruin their lives by their own stupidity, so why does God always get blamed?
Observation=Forrest Gump stated, "stupid is as stupid does." This verse is a what people call ‘a no brainer’ or a ‘no duh’ statement.’ When we make wrong choices in our lives and things go bad we blame God! How many times, after I have done something wrong and there were consequences, have I stated, “God was out to get me” or “God was paying me back for what I had done?” More times then I can count.
Sometimes I think it is easier to blame God, than it is to examine our own choices and admit our wrong choices. In our minds I believe we rationalize, “if blame can be placed on the Almighty than I am just a victim and I am not really at fault.” I am the one who made the stupid choices and receive what I simply deserve, to blame God is simply, "stupid is as stupid does."
Application=The Bible teaches that, “what we sow we shall reap.” It is a law that God has ordained. Only God’s mercy and grace treats us better than we deserve! But outside of God’s redemption we still will face the consequences of our actions. And while God has removed our sin nature and replaced it with his righteousness we still act out of the residue of who we once were. Our flesh and our mind wars with our spirit man and we still act out on our own and we receive the consequences of a soul that tries to play God. How can I blame God when I suffer the consequences of my own rebellious heart?
In Christ, I am no longer a victim. My sin nature has been crucified with Christ. When I sin I do so willingly as a choice of my own, not because I am still bound to sin. Paul writes that sin is no longer our master. When I choose to sin I receive the fruit of my choice but God is always faithful to provide a way out. Read I Corinthians chapter 10 verse 13.
“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”
Prayer= Lord, I thank for your way of escape in temptation. Thank you Father, that you never leave us on our own. Forgive me when I try to play God and act out on my own and when I blame you for my own sin. Thank you for your forgiveness and your restoration. (I John 1:9)
