Satisfaction Guaranteed

The Book of Proverbs

Proverbs Chapter 13
Scripture= Proverbs 13:25
An appetite for good brings much satisfaction, but the belly of the wicked always wants more. (The Message)

The righteous eat to their hearts' content, but the stomach of the wicked goes hungry. (N.I.V.)

Observation= The Rolling Stones wrote a song entitled ‘Satisfaction’ and the main line in the song repeats, “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction.” The idea of the song is, no matter how hard the person tries satisfaction is just not there. Satisfaction is allusive and out of reach.

This song is what I thought of when I read this verse from Proverbs chapter 13. Solomon writes that the wicked is never satisfied, their appetite always remains. No matter what they try, their sin will never bring them satisfaction. The world will always leave you hungry, looking for more. Unless you walk in God’s ways you are settling for the counterfeit and the fake can never give you satisfaction.

Only God can fulfill the desires of our heart. The world only offers a deception, an illusion that promises it will meet our needs but always leaves us asking, “Is that it, is this all there is?” Even when we believe that the world has fed us well, it is simply a sugar high, a rush that only lasts for a short time. Soon we will crash and our hunger is even worse than it was before. We will find ourselves, once again, out looking for something else that will satisfy our longings but we will
GET NO SATISFACTION!

Application=The Psalmist wrote, “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him” (Psalm 34:8). In Psalms 19:7-11 David writes about submitting our lives to the Word of God. He tells us the benefits that the Word of God provides to those who will trust in it. Only our relationship with our Heavenly Father can fully feed us and give us satisfaction!

Prayer= Lord Jesus, I want to trust in you and in the power of your word. I don’t want to eat from the table of the world. Show me Holy Spirit where I am trusting in the world to meet my needs and help me to turn to your word instead, for only you Jesus can provide true and lasting satisfaction.
