Living Attached to Mercy and Truth

The Book of Proverbs

Proverbs Chapter 3

Scripture= Proverbs Chapter 3:27-29 (The Message)
Never walk away from someone who deserves help;
your hand is God's hand for that person.

Don't tell your neighbor "Maybe some other time" or "Try me tomorrow" when the money's right there in your pocket.

Don't figure ways of taking advantage of your neighbor when he's sitting there trusting and unsuspecting.

Observation= In Proverbs chapter three verse three we are told to not let mercy (loving kindness) and truth (loyalty, faithfulness) out of our lives. The Message Bible says to, “Tie them around your neck; carve their initials on your heart.” That is a pretty graphic word picture. In God’s mercy we are to stay faithful in our commitment to represent God to others. We are to never forget who God is and how he treats his children and with that remembrance attached to us we are to treat others in the same way!

Verses 27-29 give us a living example; if mercy and truth are attached to us then we will not walk out on others when there is something that we can do for them. We cannot put others off if God’s mercy and faithfulness to us is still fresh in our hearts and on our minds. We will have no excuses or reasons why we cannot help them.

We MUST respond to others needs when we are capable of doing so!

Application= No excuses, no reasons why I cannot help others... When God’s blessings rest in my heart and in my hands and I give to those in need, I am the hands of God! Others see my heart and the bigness or the smallness of it by my acts of mercy and these acts reflect on the goodness of my God. With God I always have abundance.

Prayer= Lord Jesus, I want to be a generous man! I want to express my gratitude by faithfully giving of myself to those in need. Help me to constantly hang on to your mercy and faithfulness to me and use them as a reservoir to refresh others.

This chapter is so rich from beginning to end. My favorite verse is 3"Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
bind them around your neck,write them on the tablet of your heart.4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man". Love here is the focus of a person's attribute... not fame, money, beauty, talent or status.... LOVE. Let love rule and reign in your hearts.
