Were You Mentioned in the Will?

Hebrews Chapter 9

Scripture: Hebrews 9:11-12 (New Living Translation)
So Christ has now become the High Priest over all the good things that have come. He has entered that great, perfect sanctuary in heaven, not made by human hands and not part of this created world. Once for all time he took blood into that Most Holy Place, but not the blood of goats and calves. He took his own blood, and with it he secured our salvation forever.

Scripture: Hebrews 9:16-17 (New Living Translation)
Now when someone dies and leaves a will, no one gets anything until it is proved that the person who wrote the will is dead. The will goes into effect only after the death of the person who wrote it. While the person is still alive, no one can use the will to get any of the things promised to them.

Observation: Have you ever been in lawyer’s office waiting for the lawyer to execute a will? The tension even among close family members can be as thick as fog. What will they get? Are they even in the will? Were their hidden assets that nobody knew about? So many questions and everybody is worried about being left out or not given as much as…
Hebrews chapter 9, verses 16-17, tell us that Jesus has executed the will of our Heavenly Father by paying the price; His own death. After all someone must die in order for a will to go into effect. Verses 11-12 tell us that once Jesus had ratified the will (by his death), he went into the sanctuary in heaven and then into the Holy of Holies and sprinkled his blood on the Mercy Seat (the lid of the Ark of the Covenant) like the high priest did on the Day of Atonement. The power of his blood is what gave our inheritance its significance. Because of the blood of Jesus we are now free from the bondage of sin and death and we are able to receive intimate fellowship with God with all of its benefits. Or inheritance is New Life, Abundant Life and Eternal Life.

Application: I am an heir of salvation. I have been willed New Life, Abundant Life and Eternal Life. I want to live this out here on this earth. What is the point of being a recipient of the will if you cannot use, enjoy or live off your inheritance? Our will was not just full of good intentions and empty promises. It was ratified by the blood of Jesus and contains the fullness of God that has been willed to those who believe. I want to walk in my inheritance! How sad would it be, to be a rightfully entitled heir of the “Promises of God” and to miss out on the blessings of our inheritance? We must receive the willed promises of power and authority to live in the victory that the death of Jesus has insured for his beneficiaries.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I want to receive fully and walk completely in my inheritance. Thank you for dieing for me and giving me new life. Thank you for making me a joint heir with you in the family of God. Help me to live a life to day that will bring glory to my heavenly Father.
