You Know What to Do!
Hebrews Chapter 8
Scripture: Hebrews 8:10-12
This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel
after that time, declares the Lord.
I will put my laws in their minds
and write them on their hearts.
I will be their God,
and they will be my people.
No longer will a man teach his neighbor,
or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the Lord,'
because they will all know me,
from the least of them to the greatest.
For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more."
Observation: This is a great passage of scripture. It tells us that God has given us His Spirit to know His will and His ways. The power of this is incredible. The Word of God is always there to reveal God’s plan for mankind and to give us words of life but we also have God’s words written in our hearts. We can know what to do, how to live, and what is pleasing or not pleasing to God. I have the presence of God living in me and giving me rhema words that reveal God’s direction for my life. These words don’t take the place of God’s commandments or make them null and void. Instead the law in my heart and mind will bring God’s Word to an even greater focus in my life. If the word is silent on any issue I have the laws of God in me to lead and guide me in the right way. My sin has been removed, God lives in me and I can know His leading from my heart and my mind! This is awesome; I can know what to do. I can know how to live.
Application: I don’t have to always wonder if I am doing the right thing I can receive the witness of the Holy Spirit. I don’t have to wonder what the word would say if I can’t find it, because the Word is in me and will direct me. God’s law in me will explain, and not only tell me what the word says but will guide me in following its instruction. The Word is for me to know and understand and live! The logos, The written word of God and the rhema, the revealed word of God, will bear witness of God’s laws in me through the presence of the Holy Spirit within me.
Prayer: Thank You Heavenly Father for depositing your precious Word in us. And thank you for giving us your Holy Spirit to teach us about the laws you have written in our hearts and minds. I want to listen, learn and follow your leading today.

I must admit it has been difficult to grasp some of the posts by Pastor Dan and even the revelations given to me about building on the old covenant with the new one brought by Jesus. So, I found insight in this passage:
8:6-7 (NIV) But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs [the high priests] as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises. For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another."
Observation: This book, really describes a role of Jesus that isn't talked about much in the church body today. Just like the scripture talks about Jesus coming to complete the laws of Moses, this chapter reveals to me that Jesus not only completes the laws, makes them known to us personally, but also has given us better promises. In the American Standard Version, it uses the language that Jesus "obtained a ministry more excellent, by so much that he is also the mediator of a better covenant." I love the illustration of Jesus being our High Priest, so much higher than those of another time and yet, he is still my brother and my comfort. What an awesome mind blowing thought that My Jesus rules with such authority he can put the old law in me, and still operate within greater promises to his people.
I don't know if this will make sense to anyone else, but it has been very confusing for me to understand some of Pastors blogs about the law. I do love that my forgiveness or my need to sacrifice and the things of the old covenant are not really "passed away" as I was taught; but rather they are now "under the authority" of the New High Priest.
Application: To apply this in my life means to leave the comfort of putting Jesus in the religious box of understandable laws. I have to lay down the teachings of those who did not operate within the grace of Jesus and whom taught me to misunderstand the true meaning of Jesus interceeding for me. I CAN be in the new covenant with Jesus and He will be in covenant with the old laws for me, Yes!
Prayer: Wow...God of yesterday, thank you for being my God of today! Thank you for your son Jesus. Thank you Jesus for the ability to fall short of the standards and not be cast out of your presence. Teach me to show your mercy to others in my life and teach me more about your ministry that goes on right now in heaven for me, just a sinner.
